ACA Open Enrollment Radio or Newsletter PSA

November 13, 2019

The open enrollment period for 2020 health insurance is November 1st to December 15th. It is important that Granite Staters pay attention and act quickly to enroll by the December 15th deadline. People who already have a plan and need to re-enroll are encouraged to double-check their network and prescription drug coverage for any changes, and to update their information in case they qualify for any additional cost-savings. New Hampshire residents can compare plans and apply for health insurance at www.healthcare.gov, or free help is available by calling (603) 931-3858 or toll free at 1-877-211-NAVI.

Many individuals who purchase coverage through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace will qualify for financial assistance to lower the cost of their monthly health care premiums, or may be eligible for other programs to help lower health care costs.

Open enrollment is your only opportunity to buy a major medical individual health plan for next year, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period. All health insurance plans sold in the Marketplace must cover the ten essential health benefits, such as preventive and wellness services, prescription drug coverage, emergency care, and mental health and substance use disorder treatment. It is important that people read the details for any health insurance plan purchased outside the Marketplace, because it does not necessarily have to cover these essential health benefits. If it is an inexpensive individual plan not sold by one of the approved companies in New Hampshire—Anthem, Ambetter or Harvard Pilgrim – there may be coverage exclusions and waiting periods, and consumers should check their policy documents before enrollment.
