CME 101
The New Hampshire Medical Society tracks Continuing Medical Education (CME) for all Physicians licensed in NH. Some of the basic information you need to know is as follows;
- CME is computed for a two year cycle, based on when you originally received your license.
- The cycle years are calendar years, from January 1 of year 1 to December 31 of year 2.
- The form is a Biennial form. You will be asked to report both years of your cycle at the end of year two.
- The Credits fall into 2 groups; Category 1 and 2. The state requires 100 credits over the 2 year period, 40 credits must be Cat 1 and the remaining 60 can be either Cat 1 or 2. We have limited storage space so it is not necessary to mail us more than the minimum.
- Category 1 includes credits that you attend classes for or take tests, whatever the process you will receive a certificate stating the number of approved Cat 1 credits, the institution that provided the credits and a date. Copies of these certificates must be submitted for credit to be approved.
- Category 2 are self learning experiences such as journal reading, use of audiovisual materials where you learn something, seminars that do not qualify for Cat 1, teaching or book or paper writing. These can be listed on the last page of the form.
- There are some equivalents such as receiving a PRA, Board Certification (annual recertification with a specific number of credits may be used for Cat 1 credits as designated) or license from another state listed on the form that will cover you for a 2 year cycle. If not designated, 25 category 1 credits will be allowed. If you submit a board certification in the last year of a cycle it does not cover for two years from that date forward, it simply will cover you for 1 two year cycle.
- Annual reporting fee is $35.
