CMS and AMA Help for ICD-10

Today, the American Medical Association and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) jointly announced that agreement has been reached on important elements of a “grace period” for the October 1, 2015, implementation of the ICD-10 diagnosis code set.  They will work jointly to provide educational opportunities in the upcoming months.  CMS has released guidelines regarding flexibility in the claims audit and quality reporting process during the transition.  In addition, at AMA's request, CMS will name a CMS ICD-10 Ombudsman to triage and answer questions about claim submission.
