Victim of IRS Tax Scam?

If you are a victim of IRS tax fraud  -- someone else filed your taxes fraudulently -- you need to re-file your taxes on paper and include an Identity Theft tax form 14039.

Below please find a link to the IRS web pages that discuss identity theft.  This page links to brochures about identity theft and the next steps to take if someone is a victim of this type of fraud.

The IRS resolution process can take time and patience is needed.  The normal processing time for the IRS to resolve an ID theft case can be 6-9 months.  If you are experiencing a financial hardship or believe the IRS Identity Protection Specialized Unit (IPSU) is not treating you fairly or providing adequate service, please contact the Portsmouth IRS office: 603-433-0571.
