Zika Virus Outbreak Update #6

On September 21, the NH DHHS issued their sixth health alert update regarding the Zika Virus Outbreak, with updated guidance relative to local transmission in Florida.

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released updated guidance about travel and testing of pregnant women and women of reproductive age related to the local transmission of Zika in Florida. Please review the new attached CDC HAN.
    • There continues to be local transmission of Zika virus in an expanded area of Miami Beach; those who traveled to Miami Beach any time after July 14, 2016 are at risk of Zika virus infection.
    • Active Zika virus transmission is no longer occurring in the northern Miami Wynwood neighborhood; however, individuals who traveled to this area between June 15, 2016 and September 18, 2016, were at risk of Zika virus infection.

• The New Hampshire Division of Public Health Services (DPHS) will be hosting a healthcare provider webinar on Friday September 30th from 12:00–1:00 to review the most updated Zika virus outbreak information and recommendations. Register for the webinar.

• To test patients for Zika, healthcare providers must call and confirm the testing indication with the NH DPHS. To facilitate appropriate counseling, please do not direct your patients to call NH DPHS directly. NH DPHS’s number is 603-271-4496 (after hours 603.271.5300).
