CMS has revised their FAQs on ICD-10 coding  after extensive dialogue with AMA Advocacy staff (see attached).   The revisions were posted on the CMS website on 7/31 and are consistent with the original announcement regarding flexibility when the right “ family of codes” are submitted.

New Information on Naloxone Prescribing in NH

New Hampshire HB 271, an act relative to possession and administration of an opioid antagonist for opioid-related overdoses went into effect on June 2, 2015.

This means that New Hampshire physicians can now prescribe, dispense or distribute naloxone not only to patients at risk for opioid overdose, but also to family members or friends concerned about risk of overdoese in a loved one who is not a patient of the physician.

CMS and AMA Help for ICD-10

Today, the American Medical Association and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) jointly announced that agreement has been reached on important elements of a “grace period” for the October 1, 2015, implementation of the ICD-10 diagnosis code set.  They will work jointly to provide educational opportunities in the upcoming months.  CMS has released guidelines regarding flexibility in the claims audit and quality reporting process during the transition.  In addition, at AMA's request, CMS will name a CMS ICD-10 Ombudsman to triage and answer questions about claim submission.

DHHS Health Alert - Measles

On April 29, NH DHHS released a health alert to notify healthcare providers that a person with confirmed measles traveled to Portsmouth, NH, on 4/20/15, and stopped at a local restaurant (Flatbread Company pizza) during a time when he/she was infectious. This case was an international traveler and is NOT associated with the recent multistate outbreak.
