N.H. Medical Society Releases 2013 Physician Opinion Survey

CONCORD – Today, P. Travis Harker, MD, MPH, president of the New Hampshire Medical Society and a family physician in Concord, released the results of a comprehensive survey of physicians that was commissioned by the Medical Society in conjunction with the UNH Survey Center.   

Coming Together to Prevent Suicides in N.H.

The N.H. Suicide Prevention Council recently teamed up with medical, law enforcement, military, corrections and school personnel in hopes of raising awareness about suicide, including: the resources available in New Hampshire, educating the community on warning signs of those who may be at risk, and highlighting current initiatives in prevention, such as the State Police Peer-to-Peer program.

Maine EVP Testifies in Concord

At the request of NHMS President Dr. Travis Harker, Attorney Gordon Smith, EVP from the Maine Medical Association, testified on September 10, before NH’s Medicaid Expansion Commission. Attorney Smith outlined the reasons that a certain level of Medicaid expansion has worked in Maine for over a decade and his own state’s struggle to accept the ACA current expansion. The Maine Medical Association, the health care community, and their state legislature support the ACA expansion, but their legislation was not enacted after a veto override failed by just two votes.

Health Insurance Marketplace

Starting October 1, under the ACA, uninsured citizens will be able to purchase health insurance via the Health Insurance Marketplace. CMS has a website to help citizens with information and whether or not they may qualify for insurance premium subsidies. Please direct your patients with questions to this information.  Read more

Following several inquiries by New Hampshire Medical Society members, NHMS staff members Scott Colby and Janet Monahan convened a meeting with representatives of New Hampshire’s Board of Pharmacy and representatives from Walgreens.  The meeting was held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the NHMS Concord offices to discuss the following:

Enhanced Primary Care Rates Under Medicaid - Attestation Process Underway

 

As reported on March 27, 2013, under the Affordable Care Act, states may receive funding from the federal government for enhanced  primary care Medicaid reimbursement at the current level or the July 2009, whichever is greater.  This is for eligible primary care providers and eligible services only.    This enhancement is 100% funded by the federal government for CY 2013 and CY 2014.
