Faculty Bio:
Dr. David de Gijsel, works on the intersection of social justice and health. As the Chief Health Officer at Better Life Partners, he designs community-embedded, whole-person care for people with substance use disorders. As an infectious disease physician at Dartmouth Health, he focuses on the infectious complications of injection drug use, specifically on new care models for the treatment of hepatitis C in people who inject drugs. David completed medical school at of the University of Amsterdam, a residency in Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine at Montefiore in the Bronx and an Infectious Disease fellowship and residency in Leadership Preventive Medicine at Dartmouth. He holds an appointment as Assistant Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine and at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and in Addiction Medicine. He lives in Vermont.
Dr. Bryan Hybki is originally from Illinois. He graduated from medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2016 and completed my psychiatry residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock in 2020. Dr. Hybki completed his addiction psychiatry fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in 2021. He is currently double board certified in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He has worked for Dartmouth Health at the Addiction Treatment Program since 2021.
Dr. Samuel Landsman is a consultation-liaison psychiatrist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center/Dartmouth Health (DH) and the director of the proactive psychiatry consultation service, known as the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). BIT is a multidisciplinary service that focuses on identifying, supporting and treating people struggling with mental health issues and substance use disorders in the general hospital setting. Dr. Landsman teaches DH trainees and students about the treatment of addiction in the inpatient setting, and is also involved at multiple levels in institutional policy change for treatment of and behaviors related to substance use disorders at DH. He has presented locally, regionally and nationally on medication for opioid use disorder and proactive psychiatric consultation. Sam is deeply committed to assuring timely, effective, patient-centered and equitable medical care to patients struggling with addiction and other severe mental health issues and sincerely appreciates the opportunity to speak with NHMS attendees about this important topic.
Dr. Cornel Stanciu holds the position of Assistant Professor at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine and serves as the Director of Addiction Services at New Hampshire Hospital. His accolades include being a former Ruth Fox scholar and Governors Institute on Substance Abuse scholar. He was appointed by New Hampshire’s governor to the Board of Medicine, Medical Review Subcommittee, and by the DHHS’s commissioner to the state’s Therapeutic Cannabis Medical Oversight Board. Additionally, he holds esteemed credentials as an ASAM and APA Fellow. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Stanciu has been actively engaged in academia, with a significant publication record on topics related to addictive disorders. He has led multiple studies focused on understanding the clinical implications of Kratom and has contributed to the development of treatment guidelines for Kratom addiction. His research findings have been disseminated through presentations at numerous conferences, live webinars, and citations in scholarly literature. He serves on the editorial boards of several reputable journals and has received numerous awards for excellence in research and clinical care. Dr. Stanciu maintains active involvement in professional organizations such as the APA, ASAM, and AAAP, where he presently serves as the Chief Editor for AAAP’s newsletter. Furthermore, his commitment to advancing knowledge in the field is evident through his publication of the book titled “Deciphering the Addicted Brain: A Guide to understanding and Helping a Loved One Towards Recovery”.
